How 5G expansion impacts enterprise businesses of all sizes
Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, under the Mid Essex NHS Trust, supports 4,000 staff, patients, and visitors daily, within its modern Private Finance Initiative (PFI) wing and executives’ corridor at its core. Zinwave’s Active DAS, installed in 2015, provides a multi-operator lifeline that’s as steady as the hospital’s commitment to care, adapting effortlessly to growing demands.
Challenge:
The hospital needed a seamless, multi-operator system to serve EE, O2, and Vodafone users in its newest spaces. Clinicians relied on signals for patient updates, executives for oversight, demands that intensified with technology shifts, like those during Covid-19 in 2020. Any lapse could stall care delivery or disrupt management, a risk Broomfield’s modern facilities needed to mitigate.Solution:
Completed on February 25, 2015, Zinwave’s Active DAS links to EE, O2, and Vodafone 2-sector base stations, earning the UK’s first JOTS approval from all three operators; a seal of technical excellence. It powers 4G coverage across the PFI wing and executive corridor, built for durability and scale. Results:
Fault-free for over ten years, the DAS ensures staff enjoy reliable VoLTE calls and data, supporting care and leadership with ease. During Covid-19 in 2020, operator upgrades boosted capacity without on-site tweaks, keeping clinicians and executives connected. This proven resilience underscores its value as a future-proof investment for Broomfield’s healthcare mission. In 2023, the Mid Essex NHS Trust expanded the Zinwave Active DAS into the remaining 4 wings of the hospital, having proven its resilience, expandability and operational efficiency during the worse of the pandemic.
